On October 1, Homeward Pikes Peak hosted the Tenth Annual Conference on Homelessness in the Pikes Peak Region.
Attendance this year was down a bit from the past, with the same number of agencies represented, but each agency just sending fewer people.
Comments on the quality of the conference were very positive, from the welcome by Mayor Steve Bach, to the Keynote by the Regional Coordinator of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. Other plenary sessions included efforts to assist homeless veterans, serving homeless with private sector employment opportunities and non-traditional housing programs for the homeless.
Each year this conference provides an incredible opportunity for all sectors of the community to meet around the issue of homelessness, to gain concrete information on programs, new and old, and to network with colleagues. The bottom line is that in this forum ideas are both shaped and shared on how best to serve the homeless and needy populations of the Pikes Peak Region.
